Hi Friends,
I'm a sucker for a great lead magnet.
I keep a running note on my phone notes of every company that gave me something free and I thoroughly enjoy.
This one sits at the top (sorry Costco free samples).
Last week the yellow tire pressure light came on in my car. Like one of Pavlov's dogs, I knew exactly where I was going.

I pulled into the Discount Tire “free air” car line near my house and I never got out of my vehicle. An employee walked out into 100 degree Houston heat, filled all 4 tires, and waved me off.
2 minutes later the yellow light was gone.
I've done this more times than I can count, in Austin and Houston, heat or rain. Never charged. Never asked for my email. Never pitched.
When my tires wore out, I didn't shop around. I've bought 2 sets there. I can't even name another tire shop near my house. Forever faithful.
It's the best lead magnet in America, and it's not close.
So I spent the week working out why it works and distill the principles so you can apply it for your company. I even include a simple copy/paste image prompt to create yours.

Why it works on me
That yellow light triggers a specific fear. Is my car safe to drive? My daughters ride in the back seat. I need this fixed today.
That's a painkiller. Nobody puts off a painkiller.
Discount Tire meets me at the exact moment I'm worried, fixes the problem, and lets me go, in less time than a form would take.

3 lead magnet principles
1. Fix the problem completely. Nobody handed me a report about my tire pressure. They filled the tires, and the light going off was the proof. Most free offers tell you what's wrong and keep the fix behind a call.
2. Make it easy. I never had to get out of the car. Every step you add is 1 more place to wonder what the catch is, and buyers show up already wondering. Ask only for what you need to deliver the work.
In Dennis Regan's 1971 study, a stranger who bought people a Coke later sold them about twice as many raffle tickets. When the researcher handed out the Coke instead, the stranger sold no more than usual.
Reciprocity goes to whoever gave first.
Give first, and the email is an easy yes.
3. Bridge to what you sell. While the technician fills my tires, he's reading the tread on the things his company sells. The free service walks him straight to the paid one when the time is right.

The best lead magnet fixes a real problem completely, makes it easy to say yes, and puts you face to face with what you sell.
Thank you, Discount Tire. See you when the light comes back on.
Til next time,
